Classical Mash

Just a quick post this time...

When a classical music meme hits the mainstream, almost all of my Facebook friends share it. This one made the rounds quite rapidly, and I totally love it! The first thing I noticed was that the procedure behind this mashups was very similar to the commerical mashup I wrote about on December 30. So I was actually plesantly surprised to discover that the same person, Grant Woolard, was behind both!

The resemblance, I think, between this and the commercial mashup is the presence of a common feature among many well-known motives in classical music and commercial sonic markers. That feature is the tonic-dominant axis. A significant number of the tunes in this mashup fit together because of tonal music's reliance on the alternation, the tension and release, of tonic and dominant.

The main downfall - the fade out at the end! Was anyone else ready for a bombastic PAC to finish it off??
