I know, I'm taking a break from this blog. But then I heard this song on TikTok that made me laugh out loud, and I just have to share it with the world. Or all five people who read this blog. Whatever, it'll be quick.
This is not a mashup. This track was created by Salvador Peralta, and as far I can tell, he used the lyrics to the 2007 hit "Low" by Flo Rida (featuring T-Pain), and sang/harmonized them to the tune of "I Get Around" by the Beach Boys.
The result is hilarious. I wasn't quire sure what I was listening to until the verse kicked in with those famous lyrics: "She got them Apple Bottom jeans and the boots with the fur," and I couldn't stop laughing. Although it isn't technically a mashup, the effect is basically the same: a genre clash results in two artists in an unlikely duet, which is often humorous. In this case, we imagine that the Wilson brothers are singing Flo Rida's lyrics, which would have been historically impossible in 1963, and is conceptually ridiculous today. Also like a mashup, the humor requires the listener to be familiar with both source tracks in order to fully appreciate the resulting track. I find it hysterical.
